Hi Folks!
Well, by now you've probably realized we've had a software snafu with
our newsletter list. We apologize for unwanted emails - goodness,
don't we all get enough of those already?
So, while we're at it...here's some news, since some of you mentioned
that you hadn't heard from us in awhile.
1. If you are eager to hear what's up with us then check out our new
blog that we started earlier this year. We're not real regular on
it, but it does keep a better pulse on what's happening around here
than anything else (short of moving in with us!). It's a mishmash
of our interests and Janet's enjoyment of writing: http://

2. Now into June already, we are still shipping spring orders of
plants...along with many apologies. The nearly unheard of snow this
winter seems to have been a precursor to a very cold spring and
anyone in this area trying to grow a crop is about two months
behind. Janet is a board member of the county Farm Bureau and we're
both involved with local Farmers' Markets, so yes, misery does love
company, and it is good to know that it's not just us! We know
that's not much comfort for those of you in the Southwest who wanted
to plant in January, but if there was any doubt before, let us say it
here, we are an agricultural business and Tracy grows these things
himself. Until we invest in greenhouse improvements we are dependent
on the weather (and hurt by it when it is not cooperative).
3. Therefore...Tracy has been expanding propagation for summer
shipping and plans to do more of this is the coming years. Our
weather is more opportune for growing baby roses in spring/summer
rather than winter/spring, so look for more summer shipping (and
maybe fall, depending on how things go) in the future.
4. However, we're also looking at ways to get rose plants out the
door in January, even if they aren't our own, so changes will be
coming for next year. More details will come in the fall/winter
newsletter.
5. We intend to bite the bullet this summer/fall and put a shopping
cart on the website and take payment up front like most other
internet businesses do now. Early this season we indirectly found
out that our "Secure Order Form" was old-technology and not "secure"
through all pathways to our email box. We immediately stopped taking
payment information over the internet and put up a toll-free number
instead. A shopping cart will save both us and customers at least
one or two extra steps, and the plants will be able to ship
immediately when they are ready. There will be less cause for delay,
and no frustration over miscommunications or garbled credit card
digits. It's less personal, but in the end you'll get your plants
faster and in better condition, and that's what we're ultimately all
about!
6. Until then, we're still operating as usual and have about 60+
varieties getting ready to ship in the next 3-5 weeks. Tracy's
recommending Darlow's Enigma (a fragrant, shade tolerant, single
white Hybrid Musk climber to about 12' or grown as a very large
Shrub), Tournament of Roses ("a shapely pink flower with just enough
peach coloring to make it interesting", AARS winning Grandiflora from
1988), and Be-Bop (a really heathy Shrub that gets a little wider
than tall, with eye-catching red single blooms with a unique yellow
star-shaped center).

Well, that's it for now. It's been a most unusual season thus far.
It's had its joys and headaches. Thanks as usual for your interest
in our plants. There would be no AHR if it weren't for YOU!
