Amity Rose & Garden Nursery Hybrid Teas

Hybrid Teas

For the true Rose "Newbie", Hybrid Teas are what most people think of when they see the word "rose". Florist roses are usually Hybrid Teas, but they are grown in greenhouses with strict training for long straight stems with only one bloom at the top. One thing in common among our selection is that they are almost all fragrant (unlike the ones from the florist...) and many of them are winners on the rose show tables.  This class needs winter protection in the coldest climates as they are generally hardy to zone 6.

Our plants are own-root (not grafted) and shipped in 6" band or gallon pots (not bareroot).  See the availability list for current availability and pricing.

Alec's RedAlec's Red COred Cocker 1973 Medium red blooms open from almost black buds, very fragrant. A "good all-rounder" according to Peter Beales. 45 petals. One of Tracy's favorites, though the leaves look best with a regular spray program.  3 x 3 ft.

AlohaAloha 1949 Climbing Hybrid Tea. Large fragrant flowers of medium pink blend. This photo is of just one cluster at our front gate. 58 petals, 7.8 ARS garden rating. 10 x 6 ft.

Anne Morrow LindbergAnne Morrow Lindberg Warriner 1993 Large high-centered flowers of a light pink blend of yellow, cream and peach. Fragrant, upright and vigorous, 4+ x 3 ft. 26 petals, 7.4 rating. Named after the wife of Charles Lindberg. Anne Morrow was the daughter of the US ambassador to Mexico where the couple met on Lindberg's goodwill tour after his transatlantic flight in 1927.

Babs Barbra Streisand WEKquaneze - Carruth 2001 PP#13120  Mauve blend with a strong fragrance and disease resistant leaves (so the official literature says, but we've not had that experience so be prepared to deal with some fungus disease in some way.).  A gorgeous flower.  I'm sure the real Babs wouldn't have picked anything less to carry her name.  5 x 3 ft, Z7

BewitchedBewitched 1967 Medium pink, fragrant, AARS & Portland GM 1967, 27 petals, 7.7 ARS rating, 5 x 3 ft.

Blue MoonBlue Moon TANnacht Tantau 1965 An improved Sterling Silver? (SS seedling x seedling) Large strong flowers of silvery lilac. More blue tones in the sun according to Phillips and Rix. Very fragrant. One of the best of the "blues". 40 petals, 6.1 ARS rating. 3+ x 2 ft.

Broadway Broadway Perry 1985  Technically a yellow blend, but you can see that the sun brings out more shades of reddish pink.  It is shade tolerant if you'd rather have more yellow than pink.  Strong spicy rose scent on a bush of average 4 ft. height.    A good cutting rose, as are most HTs.  AARS 1986 Z5/6

Chicago PeaceChicago Peace 1962 A pink blend sport of Peace. Slightly fragrant, continuous blooming, a good bedding plant. 50-60 petals. Portland GM 1962, 4 x 3 ft.

Dolly PartonDolly Parton Winchel 1984 Huge buds open into very large orange red, very fragrant flowers, Fragrant Cloud x Oklahoma, 5 x 3 ft

DDDouble Delight 1977 I haven't met a person yet who doesn't comment on this wonderful rose. Its intense citrus fragrance can be picked out of a bouquet of many different fragrant roses and the bush seems to always have a bud or flower on it. Here in our temperate zone we usually have a few on the Christmas table and it seems so appropriate in its candycane colors of red/pink and creamy white. It's the product of excellent parentage: Granada x Garden Party, and has passed on good genes too:  Mon Cheri.  30-35 petals, 8.4 rating. 4 x 2 ft.

DuetDuet Swim 1960 Hybrid Tea, medium pink, always in bloom, 4 x 3 ft, Z6

Memorial DayMemorial Day™ WEKblunez Carruth 2004 PP#16572  Large flowers of orchid pink petals with ruffled edges.  Strong damask fragrance and clean foliage.  Few thorns on long stems.  Loves the heat, but produces darker coloration in cooler weather. This rose sounds like the one for the person who wants "everything" in a rose.  One of the cleanest roses lazy-gardener Janet grows (completely pesticide-free, not even organic treatments).  4 x 3 ft.

Mint JulepMint Julep Christensen 1983  White with pink and a green cast.  Hard to find anywhere despite Phillips and Rix comment that it's a fine rose.  One of our customers asked us to custom propagate her plant that all of her friends wanted, and the rest, they say, is history.  Now we're the ones running the waiting list... 4 x 3 ft.

MisterLincolnMister Lincoln Swim & Weeks 1964 Dark red, very fragrant, AARS 1965, 35 petals, 8.3 garden rating. Continuous blooming child of Chrysler Imperial. There always seems to be debate on whether the child out performs the parent. 4 x 3 ft.

PapaMeillandPapa Meilland Meilland 1963 Velvet burgundy red, very fragrant, Gamble FA 1974, World's Favorite Rose 1988, 35 petals, 7.7 rating. If the photo looks touched up that's because it is! All photographers know that red is hard to capture, and dark red even more so. 4 x 3 ft.

ParadiseParadise Weeks 1978 (Passion, Wezip) Mauve blend of silvery lavender blooms with red on the edges of the petals.  Large and fragrant flowers are often winners on the show table. AARS 1979, Portland GM 1979, 4+ x 3 ft

Pope John PaulPope John Paul II JACsegra 2008 - PPAF  Pure white, very fragrant, disease resistant.  We saw this one in the J&P gardens in Medford, Oregon, and it really IS as good as they say it is.  It's a rare thing to have a healthy, white and fragrant Hybrid Tea. 5 x 3 ft Z6

Princesse de MonacoPrincesse de Monaco (ML Meilland 1982) Spell-binding pink blend with large fragrant flowers of excellent exhibition form.  One quintessential Hybrid Tea.  Dark glossy foliage. 3+ x 2 ft.

PristinePristine JACpico Warriner 1978 Previous owners of our home planted this on the north side of the house. Once the sun moves over it in late spring it's a vigorous grower with disease resistant large foliage. Well-formed white/ivory flowers with pink trim. Being fragrance-free is its only drawback, unless you have allergies! It's one of those roses that looks great in all stages of bloom and growth. Portland GM 1979, 28 petals, 8.6 ARS garden rating. 5 x 3 ft.

Remember MeRemember Me Cocker 1984 Botanica says this is probably the deepest copper colored rose on the market to date and also includes a subtle yellow blend.  Somewhat spreading in growth, 3 x 3 ft.

Saint PatrickSt Patrick WEKamanda Yellow with green in warm weather and gold in cooler weather, disease resistant, Strickland 1996, AARS 1996, 4 x 3 ft Z7

Sheila's PerfumeSheila's Perfume Sheridan 1982 Floribunda/HT.  Yellow blend, very fragrant, 3+ x 2 ft, Z5? 20 petals 8.2 ARS garden rating.  Usually classed as a Floribunda but it often blooms one bloom to a stem like a Hybrid Tea is supposed to.

Silver JubileeSilver Jubilee Cocker 1978  Botanica calls this Cocker's greatest masterpiece.  Named to honor the 25th anniversary reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the double blooms are silvery pink with darker undersides.  Excellent form, vigor, color, bloom productions, etc.  4 x 3 ft, Z6/7.

SmokySmoky Combe 1968  A double flower opening somewhat muddled and flat.  Incredible color which I cannot state any better than Peter Beales, "smoky-deep-plum-red ageing to burgundy, variably, sometimes paler"!  First whiff gives me thoughts of raspberries.  We're bringing back this oldie that should not be forgotten.  3+ x 2 ft.

SolitaireSolitaire
McGredy 1987  Yellow with pink edges, fragrant and disease resistant.  Except for not blooming indoors (or full shade) this rose satisfies even our most demanding customers.  Our local rose society is responsible for us knowing about it.  One couple had imported it from Europe many years ago and saw how wonderful it was for our damp coastal climate (amazing, really) and then it fell out of commerce.  They regularly sweep most of the Hybrid Tea and arrangement classes at the annual rose show as they keep at least 5 bushes of this variety in production.  Easily 97% of every flower in our climate has a perfect pointed center (no guarantees for what it will do in yours).  Folks in Portland, OR (The Rose City), seem to know about it too.  Vigorous, even on its own roots, 5 x 3 ft.Solitaire too

Stainless SteelStainless Steel™ WEKblusi Carruth 1997 PP10188  This was bred to be the "everyday" version of Sterling Silver.  Easy care, easy to grow, not fussy, etc.  Strong fragrance, long strong stems, good form for show.  Dark green leaves with silvery lavender flowers which show best color in cooler temps.  4+ x 3 ft.

Sterling SilverSterling Silver Fisher 1957 Most nurseries have dropped this lovely rose from their offerings because it is disease-prone and not particularly vigorous. Well, I have to have this first of all purple Hybrid Teas in my garden and so we offer it for those who see things our way (typically we run a waiting list even after warning about the disease and vigor problems). Strong citrus fragrance, not too many thorns, medium green semi-glossy leaves. Upright 3 x 2 ft. when it's doing its very best. A bit hardier than your average HT.  Does best in a dry climate.  30 petals.

SunstruckSunstruck™  WEKsunvoye Carruth 2006  Huge round buds open to large flowers with good form in deep yellow gold blushed and bordered with apricot orange.  Flip the petals over to be "struck" with the yellow fan pattern on the back.  Fragrant.  Most intense in cooler temps.  4 x 3 ft.

TalismanTalisman Montgomery 1929 Very fragrant yellow blend flower with orange and copper on light green foliage. Upright bush about 3.5 x 2.5 feet with strong stems making it an excellent cut flower. In the last few years this old HT has become extremely popular again and we consistently have a VERY long waiting list.  What a shock to finally realize that its fragrance is that of one of our favorite wines, a sweet Gewurztraminer.  We'll even put a plug in for Navarro Vineyards' non-alcoholic Gewurzt grape juice.  It's also a dead-ringer.  Definitely a sweet rose fragrance good enough to drink!
